Welcome to Ægir3
Ægir3 is the oldest triathlon club in Iceland. We welcome new club members and anyone looking to maximise their potential.
Our coaching philosophy is simple: to inspire and lay the foundation for triathlon success, whether that’s participating in your first triathlon or competing internationally.
We offer experienced coaches, a comprehensive training programme, and access to top facilities.
Our coaching team
Sarah Cushing is our Head Coach. A competitive triathlete, Sarah has represented New Zealand in numerous world championship events and is a Triathlon New Zealand level 1 accredited coach.
Sarah is supported by Gylfi Guðnason (swimming); Ari Eyberg (cycling); and Jens Viktor Kristjánsson (cycling and running).
Our training approach
Ægir3 takes an holistic view to its training, with the aim of developing our athletes in all three disciplines (swim, bike and run). This includes race preparation and tactics, nutrition, and key skills, such as how to do a fast swim-bike or bike-run transition.
Exercise volumes and intensities of the club’s training change over the course of the year. This is designed for the team to be at peak fitness and speed for key events during race season. You can view this in the following table.
October – December
January – March
April – May
May – July
August – September
|The best time to learn the basics and improve key skills||Focus on developing aerobic endurance and strength||Volume drops and intensity increases||Race season and speed work||Recovery|
We have regular swim, bike and run training sessions. Our athletes keep up-to-date by using Training Peaks. This is online software to help plan training, track workouts, and measure progress. All training sessions are pushed to our athletes so they know what’s happening and when.
